Hierarchy

I have been working for about 1.5+ years now and I got a lot of people asking me:
"Do you like your job?"

I can honestly say, I am one of those lucky few people that do not hate their job.

I don't like love my job per say, and yes I do drag my feet getting ready in the morning but that's more because I'm just tired and not because I dread work.  So I guess, I do sorta-like my job?

This is most probably because I'm very lucky that my job suits my personality type.

I am the "controlling" type of person and my job allows me to be "controlling" because that's what Project Managers do - control things and ensure things are always under control even when they're not as per plan. (That is a lot of "control" lol)

But I think most importantly is that ever since I started working with EY, I am very very blessed that I have such awesome colleagues.

What I really like about them is that they are always so helpful - despite their ranks! Hierarchy means nothing in EY and this has been very true since Day 1 (okay lah, Month 1 possibly) I started work - I've had a Partner staying in the room with us til 11PM because we were setting up the War Room.

Today was a lot like that day.

I had my Managers and Senior Manager cutting, taping and hanging up papers in the War Room. They do not mind having to take off their shoes, rolling up their sleeves just so the Associates do not have to stay back too late. They came in and instead of criticising or bossing us around, they simply asked "What can I do to help?". My Manager actually sat down, summarised and read it out loud to me as I write on the dashboard that reports the status of 19 projects..

This is exactly what I mean by hierarchy doesn't mean a thing in EY - based on this picture, can you even tell what's their rank correctly?

There may be a day where I have a change of heart and decide that maybe consulting/ project management is no longer my cup of tea and leave EY, but these people will surely make it harder to leave..

Yesterday, I got an intern to help me out with things at work (because my two managers was this close of "Osom/ Rock-Papers-Scissors"-ing each other to decide which one of them gets to have me with them in a meeting.. lol) and thanks to all of the awesome bosses I had/ have, I am really inspired to teach and guide this new team member rather than just bossing him around.

A leader, that's what my bosses are to me and that's who I aspire to be at work.

Sunday Morning

I don't know why I thought a 9AM pilates class on a Sunday is a good idea.. And then I don't know why I prioritised a haircut over a massage appointment after the class..

Such encouraging friend I have..

That's me thinking, "pfft! And you thought I wouldn't survive.. Hmph!" like 30 minutes after the class

...

........

And this is also me trying to type this post out 12 hours later because I'm just too tired to move and I can feel the soreness coming.

New Work Friends

This morning I just couldn't get out of bed. When I finally got to the office, I felt like I've been hit by a truck. I think I had a spacing out moment for like a good 5 minutes before I finally could switch gears and get into my work mode.

This week felt extra longer than usual cause we've had a super kelam-kabut Tuesday, then a Wednesday that wasn't actually that long but it felt longer than usual.. Haihhh

So I needed a pick me up and there was no ZARA at the nearby mall so..

Teeheehee! Meet my new work "friends"! :D

Adding some fun to the #corporateslavery life..

You're Worth It

In light that it was the International Women's Day yesterday, I feel like I should share this post I found on Facebook, with my comments in italics.

10 Facts Every Women Should Know

  1. Everyone has rolls when they bend over. It's true, I have a friend with the world's flattest stomach, even she has rolls when she sits. Especially if you just ate!
  2. When someone tells you that you're beautiful, believe them. They aren't lying. And don't wait for someone to tell you that you're beautiful.
  3. Sometimes we all wake up with breathe that could kill a goat.
  4. For every woman unhappy with her stretch marks is another woman who wishes she had them.
  5. You should definitely have more confidence. And if you saw yourself the way others see you, you would. Confidence is good, but complement it with humility and you've got a killer combo.
  6. Don't look for a man to save you. Be able to save yourself.
  7. It's okay to not love every part of your body.. but you should. Focus on the parts you do love if you don't love every part of your body.
  8. We all have that one friend who seems to have it all together. That woman with the seemingly perfect life. Well, you might be that woman to someone else. Key word: seemingly.. I am always a strong believer of whatever that happens to you, it's the best thing that can happen to you as God is always the best planner.
  9. You should be a priority. Not an option, a last resort or a back up plan. Know your worth.
  10. You're a woman. That alone makes you pretty damn remarkable. Because who else can maintain a career, a relationship and a household?!
Happy International Women's Day everybody!

Moments

Songs have the ability to transport you back to an exact "moment". It can be a particular event, or even just a particular phase of your life and how you felt during that phase.

As for me, the only song(s) that does not signifies any particular "moment" of my life would be my collection of Hindi songs - which is more regularly updated than the list of English songs in my iTunes. I think this is partly why I can listen to Hindi songs (or even let a Bollywood movie play) in the background while I'm studying or reading. My brain doesn't need to decipher the lyrics, my heart won't flashback random memories when it plays, I don't have to think about it and can maintain my focus.

But for English songs...

There's a song that would bring me back to an exact moment while I was driving in my car with my girlfriends, there's a song that can also bring me to a different moment in my car where I just drove aimlessly for about 30 minutes just because I wanted to be alone and let my mind be calm.. There's a song that can bring me back to that moment in the parking lot where a funny conversation happened relating to the lyrics of the song.. There are just many moments related to some songs for me and sometimes it's the reason why I don't listen to the songs anymore.

As for now, these are the two songs that would sum up my current "moment":
